Keep the person larger than the material

A journey can name something with startling accuracy. That accuracy does not give the book authority over the reader, or the practitioner access to everything the reading opens.

Ethical use begins with fit, choice, privacy and the willingness to stop when a method becomes more important than the human being in front of it.

Scope

The Sensual Hero’s Journey is educational and experiential material. It is not psychotherapy, diagnosis, medical treatment, psychiatric care, trauma treatment or crisis support.

Practitioners use the books within their own competence, professional standards and setting. The material does not confer a qualification, expand scope of practice or replace clinical judgement.

Suitability

Consider the reader’s current stability, stress, available support, relationship to reflective writing, comfort with body attention and imagery, and capacity to pause when material becomes intense.

Recognition is not the same as readiness. A title may fit the pattern while the timing does not fit the person.

Consent and choice

Explain what the journey contains before it is assigned or recommended. Make room for no, not now, slower, a different book or a different form of support.

The reader may skip a practice, keep writing private, stop a chapter or decide not to continue. Those choices should not be interpreted automatically as resistance.

Privacy

Journal responses and body maps belong to the reader unless a different arrangement is explicitly and freely agreed.

If the I AWAKE Practice Space is used, clarify what the practitioner can see, what the client chooses to share, how access works and where platform privacy terms apply. Do not move sensitive material into other systems casually.

Pace and activation

Slow down or stop if the reader becomes overwhelmed, disoriented, unable to return to ordinary functioning or pressured to continue.

The books include practices of return, but a Return practice is not crisis care. Where safety or clinical need is in question, use the appropriate professional and local support pathways.

Research language

Relevant research can illuminate practices and concepts used in the work. Do not present that relationship as proof of an outcome for a particular client.

Be exact about what is known, what is theoretical, what belongs to the authored language of the books and what is your professional interpretation.

The simplest test

Does this use give the reader more choice, more clarity and more ownership of their experience?

Or does it make them easier to monitor, explain or move through a process designed by someone else?

When in doubt, return authority to the person.
