The State Beneath the Symbol

The state beneath the symbol is how a person imagines they will feel when a desired thing becomes theirs.

The symbol may be a relationship, home, body, achievement, recognition or form of freedom. The state may be chosen, spacious, secure, admired, rested, alive.

The distinction does not make the object unreal or wrong to want. It lets the reader work with both the concrete desire and the feeling it has been assigned to create.
