Projection is a term used in psychology for attributing something internal to another person or situation.
In ordinary life, it can appear when expectation, fear, desire or disowned feeling fills gaps in what is known. The word should be used carefully: disagreement is not proof that someone is projecting, and no outsider can diagnose the whole meaning of another person’s response from a single moment.
