It can be directed, captured, narrowed, scattered or returned. In the books, attention moves between words, sensation, image, memory, environment and the four questions. The aim is not perfect concentration. It is enough contact to notice what the fastest pattern would otherwise carry past you.
Attention changes an experience without guaranteeing a particular outcome. What is noticed can be met; it is not automatically solved.
Different from: presence. Attention is the movement of focus. Presence is the broader experience of remaining available to what is here.
