Interoception

Interoception is the sensing of signals from inside the body, such as heartbeat, breath, temperature, fullness, tension or the need to use the bathroom.

People vary in what they notice and how accurately they interpret it. Strong sensation does not explain itself.

The term can help place body attention beside established research. The books more often use ordinary language: what do you feel, where, and what changes?

Different from: intuition. Interoception concerns internal bodily signals. Intuition is a broader and less precisely defined experience of knowing.
