Somatic

Source status: descriptive and research-context term; “somatic science” is not one unified discipline.

Somatic means relating to the body or to lived bodily experience. A somatic practice may attend to breath, posture, movement, contact, internal sensation or action tendency.

The word does not guarantee scientific validation, therapeutic effectiveness or access to an infallible bodily truth. The relevant practice, evidence and limits still need to be named.

Different from: embodiment. Somatic describes a bodily focus. Embodiment is the broader fact and experience of living, perceiving and acting through a body.
